Name: Sarah Bialik

Current Location: Austin, Texas

Favorite Type of Climbing: Bouldering, but sport climbing has a sweet spot in her heart.

Favorite Parks: She has a soft spot for Zion and Yosemite, since they are classics. Sarah is from Kentucky, so she also wanted to mention the coolest cave system (maybe in the world) - Mammoth Cave! She also says that Mt. Rainier in Washington is one of the coolest places she has ever visited.

Sarah has always loved the outdoors, so the idea of climbing and the chance to spend more time with nature was very appealing. Sarah would always get to places early to listen to the morning birds chatter and twitter while gliding up the wall. Sarah says that climbing helps to keep her grounded. She says that, sometimes, you have bad days and that is kinda life, especially right now. Although some days are harder than others, it is okay, because climbing is the same, and she has always appreciated that it reminds her of that. She can try her darndest, and sometimes it isn’t enough to get her where she had hoped. She says it happens, and it's okay. She can just try again the next time, and the next, and the next. Maybe she will get it one day, maybe she won’t. But she can at least say she tried.

Sarah is originally from Kentucky, so the Gorge is one of her favorite places to climb. Although, surprisingly, she got into climbing after leaving Kentucky. She also got to go to Hueco with the TxLC in March, which she says was dope. It made her completely fall (her pun) in love with outdoor bouldering. Sarah and her husband also took a trip to Horseshoe Canyon Ranch, and say that it is definitely worth it. Sarah said HCR has awesome sport climbing and bouldering, so what more could you possibly want?

So far, Sarah's favorite memory of climbing is Hueco. She loves the challenge outdoor bouldering provides. She loves being out in wide open spaces where you have to really squint to see people in the distance because they just look like tiny dots. She also loves wildlife, so everything about Hueco was perfect for her. She even went as far to say that she wants to go back and live there "5ever". Sarah's advice to new climbers is simple: just do what makes you happy in life.

Sarah loves hiking with her husband and two puppers. They have been on a couple of backpacking trips as well, and those have been uniquely challenging. She says it is wonderfully refreshing to be so far out and so alone with one another. It builds amazing bonds with the people you go with, and those memories are forever. She also super love kayaking. In addition to outdoor activities, Sarah loves to knit, and since quarantine started, she has finished her first sweater and is halfway through finishing a cardigan for her husband and a summer tank top for herself. She is also a self-proclaimed total nerd and play both video and board games in her spare time.
