Bree Richardson-Jameson: Texas Lady Crusher's Member Spotlight

Favorite Parks: Garner State Park and Guadalupe Mountains National Park are her favorites due to convenience.

Bree got started climbing after she realized she had actually been free-soloing on some fifth-class terrain. She knew she needed to be safer and more responsible so she could keep climbing, and that’s when she sought instruction from a mentor in Austin, Texas.

Bree’s favorite place to climb so far is at Inks Ranch in Central Texas. It’s a privately owned property near Enchanted Rock State Natural Area in Fredericksburg.

Her fondest memory of climbing is when she discovered just how much she loves trad climbing at Enchanted Rock SNA. As an avid caver, it came as no surprise that her favorite style is one of the more obscure of the disciplines, offwidth. According to Adventure Journal,

in off-width, the crack is too large to climb by jamming your fists, hands, or fingers in it, too narrow to climb by slipping your whole body inside and chimneying up with opposing pressure. Instead, you grovel. You cram one side of your body into the crack-one leg with your foot in whatever position will give it maximum friction, one arm either bent into a chicken wing or straight out in an arm-bar, palm against one side of the crack, elbow pushing against the other side-and you start to shuffle yourself up

Climbing has given her the ability to face her fears and challenge herself to push past mental barriers.

Sometimes, Bree likes to listen to music while doing so - girl power anthems and high energy songs by various artists like Beyonce and Panic at the Disco.

Bree’s has a lot of great advice for new climbers:

1. Find a local mentor you can connect with.

2. Find a friend who wants to try climbing as well and go to a gym together

3. Find a gym, crag , or a certified guide and just go for it.

A fun fact about Bree, on top of all the rest, is she’s a proud mom of twin boys.
